For it is by grace you have
been saved through faith.. and this not from yourselves, it is the
gift of God... not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians
2:8-9
Our Associate Pastor for Family Life
Ministries, Hank Steede is well suited for his ministry to our
church family and to the families of our church community. Hank and
his wife Ann, both came into a personal relationship with Jesus
Christ through the ministry of Bethel back in the 1970’s. At the
time Hank was an officer with the Marquette Police Department. They
quickly developed a love for God and His word. As they matured
spiritually they became more and more involved in God’s work both in
their church and community. Their love for God, His Word, and His
people is apparent to all who know them. Hank and Ann are both
‘yoopers’, life long residents of our area. They were high school
sweethearts who married shortly after graduation. After a brief
stint in the military they returned to the UP to raise their family.
Both of their sons have chosen to remain in our community and along
with their spouses are very actively involved in ministry at Bethel.
Son Bob, his wife Andrea, and their two children, Dalton and Cara
live in Marquette. Son Brian, his wife Cori, and their two children,
Brianna and Caden live in Negaunee Township not too far from Hank
and Ann. As Hank and Ann were preparing to become “empty nesters”
they sensed that God was leading them into a greater capacity of
ministry. After 27 years with the police department, Hank retired
from the position of Detective Captain and began a one year pastoral
internship at Bethel which led the church to call him to serve in
his current role in 1998. As a pastoral couple, they possess a
passion to share God’s love and grace with our congregation and the
people of our community.
Ann actually preceded Pastor Hank as part of our church staff team,
having become church secretary and office manager over 20 years ago.
They faithfully pray for those under their care and reach out with
God’s compassion to young and old in our church family. As proud
grandparents they have a special burden for young families and
parents in our fellowship. Their home on the McClure Basin of the
Dead River is well known for holy hospitality. God has blessed us
with this loving, compassionate couple.
